Labor Relations
One of the primary functions of the Association is to negotiate and subsequently administer a total of seventeen separate Collective Bargaining Agreements having jurisdiction in the Kanawha Valley and surrounding counties. In addition, the Association is signatory to statewide Operating Engineers in West Virginia. The administration and servicing of these Collective Bargaining Agreements include the handling and processing of all grievances and jurisdictional disputes with competent labor relations and legal assistance. The Kanawha Valley Builders Association labor Relations and Arbitration Committee maintains a constant liaison with the Building Trades Council in Charleston, WV, by and through the Kanawha Valley Construction Labor/Management Council organized and sponsored by the Kanawha Valley Builders Association. This Council is designed to further the team concept approach and develop a working atmosphere consisting of mutual trust and understanding between union representatives and contractors. The joint labor-management logo depicting an owl as the symbol of quality construction and skilled craftsmanship emanated from this particular area Council in 1976.
